Nissan is the most recent manufacturer to provide access to Tesla Superchargers

Key Takeaways
  • Later this year, adapters will be available, and 2025 vehicles will include a North American Charging Standard (NACS) charging connector.
  • The first people in line for adaptors will be Ariya customers.
  • Owners can use a smartphone app to pay for charging through the Nissan Energy charge network.

Later this year, owners of Nissan Ariyas will have access to 90,000 Fast Chargers in the United States in addition to NACS adapters.

Nissan hopes that the Nissan Energy Charge Network, its newest EV incentive, would alleviate the burden of finding charging stations and then having to pay for battery top-ups.

Furthermore, the business has disclosed that it will be the most recent carmaker to provide access to Tesla’s extensive network of Superchargers, with NACS adaptors being made available to Nissan Ariya customers later this year.

Nissan has not yet confirmed whether or not its NACS charging adaptors would be free, in contrast to Ford, which earlier this year provided free adaptors to qualifying owners of the Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning.

Nonetheless, it anticipates that the action will provide its clients in North America and Canada with access to a wide network of fast-charging stations. As per the latest count, Tesla asserts that there are already 27,000 Superchargers spread over more than 2,400 stations in the US.

This month, the company is also launching an upgrade to the MyNissan smartphone app that will let users set a default payment method and start charging sessions without having to bother about finding RFID cards or signing up for additional apps.

In the United States, the Nissan Energy Charge Network combines more than 90,000 fast chargers, including those from Electrify America, the Shell Recharge network, ChargePoint, and EVgo networks, with plans to add more shortly.

Current Leaf customers are sadly not able to use the feature, but the company claims that using the app, users can still find charging stations in their area.

By 2026, Nissan intends to introduce 16 new electric vehicles worldwide. The Ariya and Leaf are expected to get revisions next year that include the NACS port as standard, doing away with the requirement for an adapter.

The Leaf, which is scheduled for an update next year, is the only model now offered by the Japanese business. The Ariya, which was meant to come in 2021, experienced several delays because of the COVID-19 epidemic. A more performance-focused Nismo variant is also going into production, the company recently stated.

However, Nissan recently revealed that, in comparison to the same period last year, its sales in the US and Canada decreased by 10.1% and 10.6%, respectively, this year.
