Call of Duty: Black Ops 2’s future is no longer the setting

Activision’s first of many Call of Duty games set in the distant future of 2025, Black Ops 2, was released in 2012.

Indeed, Black Ops 2 is a modern game. We are indeed becoming older. However, the predictions made by Activision and Treyarch for 2025—from the dissolution of the EU to the election of the first female president of the United States—are particularly intriguing.

What Black Ops 2 Expected to See in 2025

A second Cold War with NATO began in 2018 when an organization called Cordis Die broke into the Chinese Stock Exchange, leading China to outlaw the sale of rare minerals.

Thus, by 2025, we are already seven years into a reenactment of the world war that dominated the 20th century fifty years ago, but with much more sophisticated technology. The combat is governed by robots and drones, and a quantum computer can even hijack any gadget.

China responds by forming the Strategic Defense Coalition, which unites Asia under a single military leadership. During its founding, 11 nations joined, including North Korea, but many did so out of concern that China might invade.

The cordis Raul Menendez, the leader of the group, attempts to kill the presidents of Afghanistan and France on June 5 and June 18, respectively. After learning of SDC Chairman Tian Zhao’s intentions to invade Russia, America plans its own murder against him later that month.

When Cordis Die deploys a fleet of drones on June 19, the war then spreads to other American cities, including Los Angeles. China is also the target.

Additionally, Black Ops 2 foresaw that Marion Bosworth, the fictional Speaker of the House, would become the first American woman elected to the presidency. Additionally, it is revealed in the Strike Team mobile game that she is a Democrat.

Since her inauguration in 2021, she has maintained her position of authority until 2025, thanks to her “Bridge the Gap” campaign, which aims to mend fences with China. When Black Ops 2 came out, she was likened to Hillary Clinton by many.

Germany and France announced their exit from the EU on March 14 of this year. The already faltering euro plummets, shedding almost 70% of its value when two economic giants leave the partnership. In response, both nations switch back to their own currencies, dissolving the Treaty of Rome and the Maastricht Treaty. Finally, the EU is dissolved on September 17.

Even while Black Ops 2 and The Simpsons weren’t precisely prophetic, they nevertheless offer an intriguing insight into Treyarch’s attitude toward the future.
